Back to normal...

Thanks to all of you who attended the Wax Museum on Friday! What a huge success! I couldn't be more proud of your children. They worked so hard and took this seriously. They were adorable!

After the past two weeks of state testing I'm so happy to get back to our normal routine! I have many exciting things planned for the "home stretch" of this school year.

This week we will beginning new topics of study. In reading, we'll begin new realistic fiction books and begin working with a partner to plan, write, and discuss our thinking together by making inferences, asking questions, and making connections.

In writing, we'll begin looking at how to write a persuasive piece. We'll discover how to make a claim and then use evidence to back up our claims.

In math, we will be going back to division to begin mastering those facts. We have spent 10+ weeks on multiplication fact quizzes and these fact quizzes have ended. This does not mean that your child should not continue to work on their multiplication facts if they have not mastered them yet. We will continue to work on them in class, however, our focus now is shifting to memorizing our division facts. Information on division fact quizzes will be coming home this week.

In science, we are beginning to study electricity. This week we'll learn how to light a light bulb with one battery and one wire! We'll discover how electricity travels through a battery, through wires, and through a bulb. We will be learning a lot of new vocabulary associated with this topic!

In social studies, we are going to begin looking at culture and what this means. We'll be bouncing from continent to continent focusing on one country on various continents to compare and contrast cultures. By the end of next week, your child will choose a country to research on their own.

On Friday of this week it is Earth Day at Elsmere! We will be planting plants in our school garden, and attending two presentations: one on bees, the other on tree identification.

Current Events will resume next week. A calendar will come home today outlining when your child's current event is due.

Friday letter will also resume this week. I'm sure your child will have a lot to tell you after this busy week!
