Happy Mother's Day

I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day weekend and enjoyed reading why YOU deserve to be on the cover of PEOPLE magazine. We learned a lot about how to persuade with this assignment.

In reading we are continuing to read independently to increase our reading stamina. We are approaching 36 minutes of continued reading! After reading, we are working on a written task that is to demonstrate how we have thought about our reading to enhance our comprehension. Next week we'll have a reading partner to work with to read, discuss, and write with.

In writing we'll begin a short unit on poetry! We'll use a novel Love That Dog by Sharon Creech to examine the structure of this "novel" written very much like poetry and use mentor authors to help us write our own poems.

In math, we're continuing to master our division facts. Division fact quizzes will begin this Friday. Everyone will be on the 2s and 3s. The students will be given 2 minutes to complete 20 problems and must receive 100% to move onto 4s and 5s. It is extremely important to practice these facts at home!

We are loving our science experiments with electricity. This week we'll begin to build simple circuits and discover how these circuits work.

This Friday we'll begin our country research. Each child has been assigned a country to conduct independent research on. I am asking that by this Friday your child brings in materials to assist them with the research in class. A letter went home this past Friday outlining what resources I'm looking for.
